Three sailors from Antigua—Shanoy Malone, Ozani Lafond, and Emily Gaillard—excelled at the Mayan Wind Fest Regatta in Cancún, Mexico, held from January 16th to 19th. The event, a qualifier for the Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay, featured top talent from the Americas.
In the ILCA7 class, Shanoy Malone secured 2nd place overall with consistent top-three finishes in seven of eight races, while Ozani Lafond finished 4th. Emily Gaillard competed in the ILCA6 class, placing 13th among female sailors. Argentina’s Mateo Maldonado claimed 1st place with 7 points, followed by Malone with 18 points, and Mexico’s Santa Medina in 3rd with 22 points.
Coach Karl James, MBE, praised the team’s dedication and skill, noting their achievements as a testament to Antigua’s growing sailing program. The Antigua and Barbuda Sailing Association thanked the National Olympic Committee for its support in funding the sailors’ participation.
The sailors return with valuable experience as they prepare for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games, inspiring the next generation of Antigua’s athletes.
